LATAM Group reaches an agreement to purchase 28 additional Airbus A320neo
The LATAM group informed today August 5 that has reached an agreement with Airbus for the purchase of 28 new A320neo, which will be added to the 42 narrow-body aircraft already agreed, as part of its plan to modernize and maximize fleet efficiency for the coming years.
According to our partner site Aeroin, with this new order for a total of 70 aircraft, the LATAM group will have the largest fleet in Latin America, with greater range and capacity. The integration of the A320neo family aircraft implies more efficient engines, aerodynamic improvements, and the latest technologies that provide 20% more efficiency in fuel consumption and therefore lower CO2 emissions, in addition to a 50% reduction in fuel consumption, nitrogen oxide emissions and 50% less noise pollution.
With the signing of this agreement, the group intends to strengthen its operations in all its subsidiaries throughout the continent with a modern fleet, while maintaining maximum environmental efficiency, one of the pillars of its sustainability strategy.
LATAM also seeks to consolidate the widest range of destinations within and from Latin America and the Caribbean, in line with the connectivity agreements reached with Delta, which are currently being analyzed by various regulatory bodies where the group operates.
“The purchase of these high-efficiency aircraft is a sign of the commitment we have made to transform ourselves into a carbon-neutral LATAM by 2050. At the same time, these 70 aircraft reinforce the connectivity scale of the region. We will continue to work responsibly to leave Chapter 11 with a fleet that can keep up with the group’s new challenges,” said Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group.
