Relating to international traffic, 1,294,525 passengers were transported, representing a significant recovery of 91.2% over 2019. The cross-border market to Texas saw the biggest boom: destinations such as Dallas (DFW) and San Antonio (SAT) exceeded 2019 levels; Houston (IAH) almost restored its pre-pandemic capacity, and new destinations such as McAllen (MFE) and Harlingen (HRL) were established.

Viva Aerobus is the largest domestic operator of international flights with a 46.4% market share in ASK, while American Airlines and United Airlines were the largest foreign carriers. Much of its recovery was due to strong demand to Texas.

Airlines like Delta and Aeromexico have considerably reduced their international offerings: the airline of the eagle’s knight suspended its operations to the United States during 2021, as a consequence of its financial restructuring.

During December last year, Aeromexico reconnected Monterrey (MTY) to Madrid (MAD) after more than a decade of the last operation. The Mexican airline started with a three-weekly flight schedule in Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, also serving 2,639 passengers and moving more than 66 tons of cargo in 13 air operations in 2021.

As part of its expansion plan, Aeromar launched for the first time its international flights from Monterrey (MTY): the first destination was McAllen, Texas (MFE), operated with ATR aircraft.

Monterrey’s (MTY) international offer includes destinations to the United States, Mexico, and Panama.
