As part of this agreement, Röhlig Logistics will invest in certified offset programs for CO2 emissions that occur during the transport of air cargo. The company initially committed to decarbonizing air freight on four selected routes, which would represent an offset of about 1,000 tons of CO2.

Philip W. Herwig, the managing partner of Röhlig Logistics, said, «Röhlig is committed to promoting sustainability in all its business activities and decision-making processes. We are therefore particularly pleased to be a partner of Lufthansa Cargo and to take a measurable step in our sustainability efforts with this commitment. With immediate effect, we offer our customers CO2-neutral freight transport on selected routes. In doing so, 100 percent of the CO2 emissions are offset by supporting projects of the international, non-profit climate protection organization myclimate».

Although they do not prevent CO2 emissions in airline operations, offsetting programs are being implemented around the world as a strategy to mitigate the environmental impact of the activity. The strategy involves the creation of forest environments that offset such emissions.

    CEO’s words:

Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, said, «Our goal is to become the most sustainable air cargo airline. That’s why we are investing in a modern fleet, in innovations such as the AeroShark, which reduces air resistance, and in lighter, state-of-the-art cargo equipment. These investments are helping to significantly reduce our CO2 emissions. Moreover, we offer our customers sustainable transportation solutions that reduce their remaining carbon footprint. In addition to sustainable aviation fuel, this also includes offsetting CO2 emissions by investing in high-quality climate protection projects.»

    • Frankfurt (FRA) to Atlanta (ATL), Frankfurt (FRA) to Mexico City (MEX),Frankfurt (FRA) to Shanghai (PVG),Hong Kong (HKG) to Frankfurt (FRA)

The offsetting of air cargo operations achieved by this project will be managed through Compensaid, the Lufthansa Group’s digital platform for CO2-neutral flights.
