Ukrainian Air Force pilots came up with the original idea of launching the #Buymeafighterjet initiative, asking the world’s wealthy to buy fighter jets for them so that they can continue fighting.

According to the buymeafighterjet.com website, the idea arises from the desperate need to replace at least some of the aviation hardware lost during the war, and the refusal of Western countries to supply fighter jets to Ukraine, fearing an escalation of violence across Europe.

Since the governments are not giving them the answers the Ukrainians are looking for, they are now directly appealing to the richest individuals in the world.

“We ask you, Philanthropist, to use your financial, organizational and political capabilities to buy and hand over a fighter jet to us».

As explained on the site, the estimated average cost of a fighter jet is $25 million. It is also reported that Ukrainian pilots are trained on the following ex-Soviet fighter models:

    • Su-22
    • Su-25
    • Su-27
    • Su-24
    • MiG-29

They even provide a list of countries that operate or have these aircraft models in inventory, so that those who want to help, can go and buy them.

Expert personnel from the Ukrainian Air Force are available to facilitate the entire operation of finding, purchasing and transferring the fighters to Ukrainian hands.

Georgia produced the Su-25 Frogfot locally, and there are currently several dozen unfinished airframes at the factory, which could serve the #Buymeafighterjet initiative.

Likewise, and coinciding with a previous Air Force request for Western fighters, the site argues that Ukrainian pilots can quickly master fighter jets such as the F-15, F-16 or F-18, so these types of aircraft are also acceptable.

As the saying goes, «necessity is the mother of invention», and Ukrainian pilots need fighter jets to stay in the fight; so they sharpened their originality and inventiveness to make use of the massive resource of the internet and social networks, to bypass governmental reticence and reach out to individuals with the ability to make a difference.
