Rostec Aims to Produce 10 Tu-214 Aircraft Annually from 2025, Countering Western Sanctions
The Russian state-owned company Rostec plans to produce ten narrow-body Tu-214 airplanes per year starting in 2025, according to CEO Sergey Chemezov during a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin about the company’s activities results in 2022.
«The Tu-214 aircraft is manufactured at the Kazan aviation factory. New hangars are being built; it will be a large-scale factory with the capacity to produce ten airplanes. We must reach the production of ten airplanes by 2025,» he stated, according to a report by our media affiliate, Aeroin.
The executive stressed that an increase in the production of this aircraft to 20 per year would require additional funding.
On the other hand, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said in an interview with TASS last December that the United Aircraft Corporation could increase the annual production of the Tu-214 to 20 aircraft, although he added that exceeding that number would be costly and would cause an imbalance with the MS-21 project. Also, the plan is to deliver this year the first Russian Tu-214 aircraft with a PS-90A engine made in the country, he emphasized.
The need to increase the serial production of the Tu-214 emerged due to Western sanctions imposed on Russia, the suspension of the supply of Airbus and Boeing aircraft, and the refusal of European countries and the United States to provide technical maintenance and supply components.
Until recently, the Tu-214 was produced in small quantities and was only used in regional aviation. Aeroflot will be one of the main customers. According to Russia’s Minister of Transport, Vitaly Savelyev, the company considers the Tu-214 as one of the pillars of its aircraft fleet.
