Quadriga Program Takes Off: Final Assembly of First German Eurofighter Underway

Airbus, at its facilities in Manching, near Munich, officially started the final assembly of the first of the 38 new Eurofighter German jets from the Quadriga project.

Quadriga Project

In November 2020, Airbus Defence & Space and the German Government signed a contract for the manufacture and delivery of 38 new Eurofighter planes for the German Air Force (Luftwaffe). In this way, Germany becomes the country with the highest number of orders in the largest defence program in Europe to date.

The order, also known by the name of Quadriga project, includes the delivery of 30 single-seater Eurofighters and 8 two-seaters. Three of the planes will be equipped with additional test facilities as Instrumented Test Aircraft for further development of the Eurofighter program.

The new Eurofighter Tranche 4 jets from the Quadriga project would come with updates to the software and AESA E-Scan MK1 radars. The E-Scan MK1 will be the first series AESA (active electronically scanned array) radars for the Eurofighter.

Thanks to the Quadriga project, in addition to the Tranche 4 of Spain’s Halcon project, it ensures that the Eurofighter will continue in production until 2030, with a service life beyond 2060.
