The order is for long-haul missions and will gradually replace older aircraft. The addition of the A350 aligns with the carrier’s sustainability efforts as it prepares for the merger with Asiana Airlines, which currently has a fleet of 15 Airbus A350-900s with six aircaft remaining to be delivered as well as 9 Airbus A350-1000,

In addition to the agreement to purchase 33 A350s, Korean Air plans to add 50 Airbus A321neo, 10 Boeing 787-9s, 20 Boeing 787-10s and 30 Boeing 737-8s. The airline will continue to upgrade its aircraft fleet and prioritizes carbon emissions reduction through new aircraft operations and other sustainability activities.
