Moscow canceled the International Aviation and Space Show (MAKS) for the second time
As was the case last year, the International Aviation and Space Show (MAKS), scheduled for this summer in Zhukovsky, near Moscow, was again cancelled.
MAKS has been showcasing Russian civil and military aviation products since 1993, held every two years at the airfield of the Flight Research Institute named after M. M. Gromov in Zhukovsky. The organizers are the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the state corporation Rostec, the organizing company is Aviasalon JSC. It is the largest aeronautical event in Russia, and the most important “showcase” for displaying the advancement of its aerospace technology to potential foreign buyers.
Within the framework of the war in Ukraine and with logical security concerns, the Russian authorities decided to suspend the 2023 edition of MAKS, and postpone it to the end of July this year. And although the decision has yet to be formally communicated, government sources told the Russian news channel Interfax that the event will also be cancelled this year.
Undoubtedly, the reason for the new cancellation will be the lack of security guarantees to conduct such a massive event with normality. As long as the war between Kiev and Moscow continues (with no obvious end in sight), the chances that we will see the 2025 edition of MAKS take place seems very slim.
