Recife will be the first Azul hub to recover 100 percent of the capacity operated in the pre-pandemic period. In January 2021, the company will reach 75 departures on peak days to 31 destinations in the country. With more operations to more cities, Recife is consolidated as the airport that concentrates the largest operation of an airline in the entire Northeast.
“We are expanding our operations month by month and we are following our plan to resume air transport services in all regions of Brazil. Recife is one of our main operating bases and, due to its strategic position and rapid recovery, we have reinforced the routes that we already operate in the city. Now we have consolidated a new step and we will create new markets that will make our Pernambuco hub even more connected to the main airports in Brazil ”, said John Rodgerson, president of Azul.
In anticipation of planning for the peak southern summer season, which begins in December, Azul will strengthen its presence in the state by flying to markets unusual in the history of the Pernambuco terminal. Recife-Uberlândia, Recife-Ribeirão Preto, Recife-São José do Rio Preto and Recife-Goiânia will begin in December, contributing to the resumption of tourism in Pernambuco. In the same month, Azul will begin to operate regularly the longest domestic flight in the country, Recife-Porto Alegre, and will last 4:20 hours, aboard an Airbus A320neo, with capacity for up to 174 passengers.
The non-stop and regular frequencies between Recife-Palmas, Recife-Vitória and Recife-Cuiabá will begin in January, 2021 and will reinforce the Pernambuco hub as a focal point for connections and more flights and destination options. With nine more cities connected to Recife at December, the capital of Pernambuco will have the largest summer high season in its history.
Caruaru and Serra Talhada
Starting on November 11, Azul will land for the first time in Serra Talhada (PE) and Caruaru (PE), its two new domestic destinations in Brazil. The cities will have direct and regular flights to Recife twice a day. Rather than offering flights between cities, the start of the airline’s regular operations in Serra Talhada and Caruaru will stimulate progress in the region.
The connections between the cities of Sertão and Agreste with the capital of Pernambuco will be in charge of the Cessna Gran Caravan of regional subsidiary Azul Conecta. Like its previous operations, these new ones will follow the strict health protocols adopted by the company since the beginning of the pandemic.
