Executives from Cubana de Aviación recently commented the difficulties that the airline is going through due to the economic seizure imposed by the United States.

According to our partner, Aeroin, the company blames the North American country for stopping its growth plan. The seizure makes it difficult to obtain leased aircraft and this ends up reflecting the cancellation of several of its routes.

Arsenio Arocha Elías Moisés, Deputy Director of Cubana de Aviación, stated: “Since 2019, the cancellation of leasing contracts has led to the indefinite closure of sales in various markets such as Mexico City, Cancun, Santo Domingo, Fort-de-France and Caracas, and the interruption of the negotiations for the opening of a flight to Jamaica».

In addition, the Deputy Director added that all this ends up causing negative monetary effects and an increase in the deterioration of the company’s image.

Arocha also commented: «The impossibility of making transfers to and from Cuba limits the financial flow of the country’s flag, with a negative impact estimated at more than 353 million dollars»

At the moment, Cubana continues to rely on its Russian-origin aircraft to maintain important connections in the region and its connection with Madrid, operated by its Ilyushin IL-96s.
