Lufthansa Cargo will increase its cargo capacity in Europe by acquiring two Airbus A321s converted to cargo (A321P2F). They will be operated by Lufthansa CityLine and will be based in Frankfurt. These aircraft will be mainly focused on meeting the demand from e-commerce, projected to grow 20% annually during the next five years.

Dorothea von Boxberg, executive director of Lufthansa Cargo expressed in this regard: «With these A321s we seek to satisfy the growing demand of our customers and strengthen our network of connections. This aircraft can carry a significantly higher amount of cargo than is available in the warehouses of the passenger aircraft (called belly cargo),» added von Boxberg.

The Airbus A321P2Fs offer a payload capacity of 28 tonnes and a range of 3,500 kilometers. The conversion allows to place up to 14 standardized pallets on the main deck, added to the 10 that are transported in the lower warehouse. The modification was developed by the joint venture created between ST Engineering and Airbus, called EFW.
