Eastern Airlines temporarily suspends flights to Asuncion

Eastern Airlines inaugurated operations to Asuncion on January 6, marking the return of flights between the United States and Paraguay after five years. The US airline began with two weekly operations on Boeing 767-300(ER) aircraft, configured with 244 seats.

As a result of good occupancies due to vacation tourism to the United States, in April the airline increased to three flights per week between Miami and Asunción.

In mid-July, Eastern Airlines reduced to two operations a week, returning to the company’s original schedule for flights to Paraguay. The airline was also scheduled to operate this number of frequencies between August and October.

According to information published by our partner Aeronáutica Paraguay, Eastern Airlines is temporarily canceling its flights between Miami and Asunción, which began nine months ago.

Among the reasons for the suspension are a sharp decline in demand, the closing of Argentina’s borders, the increase in Copa Airlines flights to Asuncion, and the reduction in vaccine tourism to the United States.

According to the current schedule, Eastern Airlines plans to resume operations to Asuncion on November 2. Flights will be operated on Boeing 767-300(ER) aircraft, three times a week.
