TAAG unveils its international network recovery plan

TAAG Angola, the African country’s flag carrier, has unveiled its international network recovery plan in the last week.

According to Newsavia, the airline’s rebound will be developed in three phases, the first one  is being launched today.

First phase:

  • Luanda-Johannesburg – a weekly flight on Tuesdays
  • Luanda-Lagos – a weekly flight on Mondays
  • Luanda-São Tomé – a weekly flight on Saturdays
  • Luanda-Cape Town – a weekly flight on Sundays
  • Luanda-Lisbon – from two to three weekly flights on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Luanda-Maputo – from September 30, a weekly flight on Thursdays

Second phase – from October 5:

  • Luanda-São Paulo – two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Luanda-Johannesburg – from one to two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Luanda-Lagos – from one to two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays
  • Luanda-Kinshasa – a weekly flight on Sundays

Third phase – from October 11:

  • Luanda-Maputo – from one to two weekly flights on Mondays and Thursdays
  • Luanda-Kinshasa – from one to two weekly flights on Sundays and Thursdays
  • Luanda-Cape Town – from one to two weekly flights on Sundays and Tuesdays
  • Luanda-Windhoek – two weekly flights on Mondays and Thursdays

The Luanda-based airline is seen by the Angolan state as a strategic asset for its privatization program, but it naturally worsened its financial results in 2020, registering losses of USD372 million, 164% more than in 2019, according to Expansão, Angola’s business newspaper.

According to Expansão, in 2020 the airline transported 307,407 passengers – 1,119,870 less than in 2019. In this respect, reactivating the network as quickly as possible is paramount for the company’s financial salvation.
