Iberia, LEVEL, and Alaska Airlines announced today the launch of a new codeshare agreement as part of a further expansion of their global network that will strengthen connectivity between Spain and the West Coast of the United States, specifically with 37 new routes from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Iberia currently operates three weekly flights to Los Angeles -with Airbus A330/200 with a capacity for 288 passengers- and, thanks to this collaboration agreement, the Spanish airline’s customers will be able to access greater connectivity with more than 20 routes that Alaska Airlines offers in the United States. These routes are Anchorage, Boise, Boise, Bozeman, Eugene, Fresno, Kalispell, Spokane, Honolulu, Kona, Las Vegas, Lihue, Medford, Maui-Kahului, Everett-Paine Field, Portland, Redmond, Reno-Tahoe, Seattle-Tacoma, San Francisco, San Jose, Salt Lake City, and Santa Rosa-Sonoma County.

In the case of San Francisco, the agreement with Alaska Airlines includes more than 15 other codeshare routes, which will connect with flights from Barcelona (operated by LEVEL starting in March 2022), and also with the Madrid-San Francisco route, as soon as Iberia recovers it. The 15 routes operated by Alaska from San Francisco are as follows: Boise, Bozeman, Spokane, Honolulu, Jackson Hole, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Missoula, Maui-Kahului, Portland, Phoenix, Palm Springs, San Diego, Seattle-Tacoma, Salt Lake City, and Santa Ana-Orange County.

All of these codeshare flights are now available for sale through Iberia’s usual channels. In addition, in the near term, Alaska Airlines will be adding its code to both airlines’ transatlantic flights. This will certainly further expand the three airlines’ collaboration in the Spain-U.S. West Coast market.

Alaska Airlines, the fourteenth member of the Oneworld alliance

Alaska marked a milestone in its 89-year history by becoming in March 2021 the 14th member airline of the Oneworld global alliance, of which Iberia has already been a member since 1999.

Customers of Iberia Plus and Mileage Plan loyalty programs will maintain their status when traveling with both airlines, allowing them to continue earning miles and benefiting from access to their Premium Lounges worldwide. They will also have access to more baggage allowance and priority boarding, among many other benefits they enjoy as part of the Oneworld global alliance.

“We are delighted with this partnership with Alaska Airlines, which will allow us to expand the number of destinations for our customers on the West Coast of the United States. At Iberia, we continue to work to be ready as soon as countries remove their border restrictions, as is the case in the U.S. market where we look forward to opening up to tourism. There is no doubt that the collaboration with Alaska will provide us with the possibility that we needed on the west coast of a market as large as the United States,” said María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Commercial Director, Network Development and Alliances.

For Lucía Adrover, Commercial Director of LEVEL: “Being able to offer our codeshare flights with Alaska allows us to strengthen its distribution in North America. In addition, we continue to improve the long-haul connectivity from our home, Barcelona”.

Nat Pieper, Alaska Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Fleet, Finance, and Alliances, explained: “We are thrilled to expand our cooperation with Iberia, one of our Oneworld partners. Alaska joined Oneworld to effectively link our network to the world, and this partnership with Iberia brings us one step closer to Europe”.
