Iberia Airport Services, the Spanish airline’s handling services subsidiary, closed the summer with almost 23 million passengers served. The group provides ground support to more than 100 companies at 29 Spanish airports.
From June to September, Iberia Airport Services performed ramp handling tasks for more than 93,000 aircraft. It also handled nearly 16.5 million pieces of baggage, which is around 70 percent of the business it saw in the same period in 2019.
The summer campaign has been marked by the recovery of domestic tourism: in August, the activity figures for 2019 were exceeded in Ibiza, Asturias, Gran Canaria, Santiago de Compostela, Santa Cruz de la Palma, and Tenerife North.
José Luis de Luna, Iberia’s Director of Airports, said in a statement that «this summer has marked a turning point in the recovery of our core business. We will continue to implement the latest technology available, allowing us to offer a better service to our customers.»
