Boeing and the United Republic of Tanzania announced an order for three models from the U.S. manufacturer during the Dubai Airshow 2021. The aircraft will be dedicated to Air Tanzania.
The order consists of one Boeing 787-8, one Boeing 767-300 freighter and two Boeing 737 MAX, and is valued at USD 726 million at list prices. For Boeing, it is the first order for a passenger aircraft as part of this Air Show.
«Our flagship 787 Dreamliner aircraft is popular with our passengers as it provides unparalleled in-flight comfort and ultra-efficiency for our long-term growth,» said Air Tanzania CEO Ladislaus Matindi.
Air Tanzania also noted that the first order of a freighter aircraft for its fleet will help it meet the growing demand for cargo within Africa and beyond.
Based in Dar es Salaam, the airline has two B787-8s and one more pending delivery for its flights to India, South Africa and soon to the UK, four Airbus A220-300s and five DHC 8-400s for its domestic and regional routes. The new 737 MAXs will be aimed at strengthening its regional network and the new Boeing 787 will enable it to open additional routes.
«Africa is the third fastest-growing region worldwide for air travel, and Air Tanzania is already well-positioned to increase connectivity and expand tourism in Tanzania,» said Ihssane Mounir, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing.
«We are honored that Air Tanzania has chosen Boeing for its fleet modernization program by adding an additional 787 and introducing the 737 MAX and 767 Freighter to its expanding network,» he concluded.
By 2024, African airlines will require 1,030 new aircraft valued at USD 160 billion and aftermarket services, such as manufacturing and repair, worth USD 235 billion, according to an analysis presented by the U.S. manufacturer.
