Frontier Airlines announced three new services. The first one is to Cancun (CUN), Mexico followed by San Juan (SJU) and Aguadilla (BQN), both destinations in Puerto Rico. These two ones would be launched by 2022.
The U.S. ultra-low-cost carrier continues to increase its Cancun operations by adding nonstop service to Hartford (BDL) in Connecticut, Buffalo (BUF) in New York, and Providence (PVD) in Rhode Island; these will begin on February 17, 18, and 19, 2022, respectively.
In addition, from San Juan (SJU) it will fly to Boston (BOS) and Hartford (BDL), starting on February 17 and 18, 2022, respectively. While from Aguadilla (BQN), in the northwest corner of Puerto Rico, it will have a direct connection to Orlando (MCO) starting March 24, 2022.

Based on data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, as of December 2021, Frontier’s flight offerings in Cancun have grown by 161.8% compared to the same period in 2019.
Prior to the pandemic, it had service from Cancun to St. Louis (STL), Philadelphia (Philadelphia), St. Louis (STL), St. Louis (STL), St. Prior to the pandemic, Cancun had service to St. Louis (STL), Philadelphia (PHL), Kansas City (MCI), Indianapolis (IND), Denver (DEN), Cleveland (CLE), Cincinnati (CVG) and Chicago/O’hare (ORD); during 2021, Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Baltimore (BWI), Orlando (MCO), Newark (EWR), Miami (MIA), Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP), Detroit (DTW), and Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) were added. In addition, Raleigh/Durham (RDU) and Columbus (CMH) will be added to Frontier’s network in Mexico City beginning in January 2022.
Such destination variety positions Frontier as the fourth-largest U.S. carrier to Cancun, based on seat offerings, with 13.8% of the share.
The announcement of the two new routes to San Juan (SJU) joins existing destinations to Chicago (ORD), Atlanta (ATL), Newark (EWR), Philadelphia (PHL), Miami (MIA), Jacksonville (JAX), Orlando (MCO) and Raleigh/Durham (RDU) in the United States; Punta Cana (PUJ) and Santo Domingo (SDQ) in the Dominican Republic; and St. Thomas (STT) in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Meanwhile, for Rafael Hernández International Airport, which serves Aguadilla, it would be the fourth company to operate in its facilities. Although Frontier will have to compete with Spirit on the same route to Orlando.
