ITA Airways continues to inherit Alitalia’s former agreements. This agreement with Air Europa allows that flights between Rome, Madrid, and Barcelona could be connected to twelve Italian cities from Fiumicino Airport (FCO).

With this alliance, which came into effect on November 8, Air Europa is now able to place its code on flights operated by ITA Airways between Madrid and Barcelona and Rome, respectively, and on several of its domestic routes from Fiumicino Airport, specifically to twelve Italian cities and Athens, Greece.

In turn, ITA Airways will apply its code on flights operated by Air Europa between Italy and Spain, as well as on several domestic routes on the Iberian Peninsula, and with the Balearic and Canary Islands.

This alliance will translate into more flight scheduling options at the hubs from which both airlines operate. In addition, ITA Airways and Air Europa passengers will fly on a single ticket, checking in at the airport of departure and collecting their baggage at the end of the trip at the airport of arrival.

Imanol Pérez, Air Europa’s Commercial Director, was very pleased with the agreement «which allows us to offer our passengers more flight options and more destinations, and to do so with the added convenience of traveling on a single ticket. Our alliance with ITA Airways allows us to maximize opportunities, grow in this market and offer our passengers the possibility of continuing their journey to more than ten Italian cities. This alliance will undoubtedly bring benefits to all parties».

Emiliana Limosani, ITA Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, said, «We are thrilled to enter into this commercial agreement with Air Europa, which is a very important partner for ITA Airways in Spain, a key market for us».

Limosani added that «our company continues to pursue its strategy of developing commercial agreements with major international airlines with the aim of offering its customers an increasing number of destinations, routes, and frequencies, especially in markets that have major growth opportunities for the airline».

Air Europa will fly codeshare from Rome to cities such as Brindisi, Bologna, Bari, Catania, Genoa, Naples, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Lamezia, Turin, Trieste, Venice, and also to Athens in Greece.

The codeshare flights are already available for sale on Air Europa and ITA Airways websites.

On October 28, the company signed the same agreement with Air Malta and joined Skyteam.
