Brazil’s Minister of Tourism Gilson Machado announced this week the launch of a direct flight between Rio de Janeiro and Doha.
This new direct connection between Brazil and Doha will begin in February and will be operated by Qatar Airways, connecting the capital of Qatar with Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão International Airport (GIG).
Currently, Qatar Airways, one of the world’s largest airlines, already operates daily flights between Doha and São Paulo, arriving in this case at Guarulhos International Airport (GRU).
» Qatar Airways will start flying to Rio de Janeiro in February with its Boeing 777. This is awesome, great news, and shows the confidence and recovery of tourism in Brazil,» said Minister Machado in a video posted on a mailing list of President Jair Bolsonaro.
Through data provided by our partner media Aeroin and according to the minister of tourism, the information was confirmed by the president of Qatar Airways himself, Akbar Al Baker, during a meeting held with Brazilian officials.
In the video, Machado appears next to the senator and representative of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Flávio Bolsonaro, who celebrated the event: «Excellent news for Brazil, particularly for my state».
The minister, who is accompanying President Jair Bolsonaro on an official trip to the Middle East, also reported that Qatari airline flights to Brazil are at an average occupancy rate of 65%, which, according to him, shows a recovery of the tourism sector, which was badly affected by the pandemic.
