Ving AB, a Swedish tour operator, recently announced that it has signed a contract with Air Lease Corporation for an A330-900, which will be operated by its subsidiary Sunclass Airlines from mid-2022.
The aircraft was originally intended for XL Airways France (bankrupt in 2019) and STARLUX, which eventually decided to delay delivery of the A330.
Sunclass will now become the first airline in Scandinavia to acquire the model, and it will be used to reactivate long-haul flights to leisure and beach destinations starting in the northern winter of 2022/23, such as Aruba, Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Vietnam, from various points in the Nordic region.
«The expansion and upgrade of our aircraft fleet is a straightforward extension of the Nordic strategy of Sunclass Airlines, Ving, and its sister companies in the region. We work together as a Nordic unit, to generate growth in the form of new destinations, increasing even more comfort for our passengers and ensuring that we emit as little CO2 per passenger as possible,» said Torben Østergaard, CEO of Sunclass Airlines.
The airline was created in 2019 after Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavian succumbed following the termination of its UK parent company. While based in Denmark, it has flights from Helsinki, Oslo, and Stockholm. Its fleet consists of eight Airbus A321s, one Airbus A330-200, and one Airbus A330-300.
