ITA Airways and Delta Airlines sign code share agreement

Delta Airlines and ITA Airways have signed a reciprocal codeshare agreement that brings more flight options for customers of both airlines between the United States and Italy and further beyond. It is noteworthy that Alitalia was previously part of the transatlantic joint venture with Delta, Air France, KLM, and Virgin Atlantic.

As of December 22, the ITA Airways code (AZ) is placed on Delta-operated flights offering connections to more than 90 destinations. This includes flights between Rome (FCO) and Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Detroit (DTW), and New York (JFK), plus select routes across Delta’s vast U.S. domestic network and flights to Mexico and Canada.

Likewise, the Delta Airlines (DL) code is placed on flights operated by ITA Airways across 33 destinations, including from Miami (MIA), Boston (BOS), New York (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX), and Washington (IAD) to Rome (FCO) and 16 onward connections within Italy. They will also be included on flights in the Mediterranean and Middle East to Albania, Egypt, Tunisia, Greece, Malta, and Israel.

«We are thankful to the U.S. and European authorities for granting the codeshare approvals and will look forward to further enhancing customer benefits with ITA in the months and years ahead,» said Perry Cantarutti, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Alliances.

«With Delta’s network from New York – JFK, we can offer a wide choice of future destinations to our customers, while welcoming U.S. visitors to Italy through our hub at Rome Fiumicino,» added Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer, ITA Airways.

During the upcoming northern summer season Delta will offer 10 daily flights between the U.S. and Italy, beating the company’s offer available during 2019.

On the other hand, ITA Airways recently started its transatlantic operations and expects to add more destinations for next year, in addition to joining the Skyteam alliance of which Delta is a founding member.
