SWISS and Diamond Earthrounding conduct mission to promote sustainability worldwide

Andrés Poleri

SWISS will join the Diamond Earthrounding team on a flight around the world with the mission to link initiatives that accelerate the process to promote sustainable aviation.

The Diamond Earthrounding project will take a flight around the globe to connect worldwide initiatives for sustainable aviation. Through visits and reports on the strategies being implemented in each location, the team intends to “raise awareness of sustainable technologies and promote ways to invest in them on a voluntary basis to further accelerate aviation’s path to net-zero carbon emissions,” according to a Swiss statement.

Diamond Earthrounding is a non-profit project formed by a team of nine young aviation enthusiasts. The Swiss-based Diamond DA50 RG aircraft is scheduled to depart on January 2, 2022, and will begin its journey eastward and plans to cross the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

The Diamond Earthrounding Tour

In accordance with information shared by Swiss, after crossing the Pacific, the crew will “visit and transmit from sites critical to the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Where possible, they will reduce their trip emissions by adding SAF to the DA50’s fuel tanks. At certain airports on their route, they will also load SAF, which is paid for by SWISS customers who have opted to reduce their CO2 emissions voluntarily through the online platform Compensaid.”
