Trans Guyana Airways relaunches flights to Brazil

Trans Guyana Airways has resumed operations to Boa Vista, capital of the state of Roraima, with Beech 1900D on December 21.

The airline based in Georgetown, bordering Roraima and Pará in northern Brazil, had launched its operations to Boa Vista in December 2020, while Covid-19 infections seemed to be under control, however, due to the new wave of the disease, it had to suspend flights at the end of January this year.

Now, almost a year later, Trans Guyana is back in Brazil with passenger flights, and the arrival in the capital of Roraima was marked by the firefighters’ water arch, as seen in the following video:

In accordance with what was reported by our partner Aeroin, the resumption of the route between Georgetown and Boa Vista was carried out by an aircraft registered with registration number 8R-EAR, which is one of the three Beech 1900D operated by the company.

The twin-engine turboprop arrived at 10:34 AM local time on flight TGY-5211 and after more than 1 hour on the ground, departed again on TGY-5221 at 11:49 AM.

In accordance with the flight schedule approved by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC Brazil), Trans Guyana’s next operations to Roraima will be on December 23, 29, and 31, with scheduled arrivals at 05:20 AM and departures at 07:00 AM (always local time), with Beech 1900D aircraft. Next year’s schedule has not yet been published.

The Beechcraft 1900 is a pressurized regional aircraft with a capacity for up to 19 passengers, which was developed from the executive Super King Air 200. Despite not being so well known in Brazil, it became one of the most popular units of its category in the world.

Its first flight was in September 1982, and 695 were built over 20 years until production ceased in 2002.

The 1900D version, which was designed to remedy the low cabin height of earlier versions by providing room for passengers (or most of them) to walk upright, began to attract attention for its different design resulting from the retrofit. It is one of only two 19-seat airliners in the world with this feature, the other being British Aerospace’s Jetstream 31/32.

With a larger fuselage, resulting in more weight and more aerodynamic drag, the 1900D carries PT6A-67D engines, more powerful than those of its predecessors. Of the 695 units produced, 439 were of this version.
