The company received the authorization from ANAC Brazil, which was published in the Official Gazette on December 15, 2021. For the time being, ITA only operates non-scheduled cargo flights between Brazil and Italy, with aircraft carrying the Alitalia livery.

As reported by our Brazilian media partner Aeroin and in the request for authorization to the National Civil Aviation Administration, ITA says that it is a completely new company incorporated under the full ownership and control of the Italian government, following the dissolution of Alitalia.

However, the company stresses that ITA Airways has no relationship with Alitalia and that the start of its operations in Brazil is not a replacement of its predecessor, but a completely new company.

While the airline has not yet released an exact date for the start of scheduled flights to Brazil, executives estimate that operations to Sao Paulo, and then Rio de Janeiro, will be initiated this year.

Brazil being one of the main markets served to Italy, it is only a matter of time before operations begin. Meanwhile, in Rome, the state-owned airline’s executives remain firm in their intention to seek a major partnership so that ITA can compete on equal terms with the major players in the world airline market.
