2022 kicked off positively for the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) with the confirmation of the incorporation of SANSA (Servicios Aéreos Nacionales S.A.) as a new member airline.

SANSA operates from its base at the Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José, Costa Rica, a network that links 13 cities, connecting mostly coastal towns such as Tamarindo, Nosara, Tambor, and Quepos, as well as tourist centers near national parks such as Liberia and La Fortuna, Puerto Jimenez and Drake, among others.

The company operates in San José, Drake Bay, Costa Esmeralda (Nicaragua), Golfito, La Fortuna/Arenal, Liberia, Limón, Manuel Antonio/Quepos, Nosara, Palmar Sur, Puerto Gimenez, San Isidro, Tambor, Tamarindo and Tortuguero, according to its website.

It was founded in 1978 and has a fleet of nine Cessna 208 Grand Caravan aircraft, four of which are EX models.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome SANSA, an airline from our region that received its ISSA safety certification during our most recent ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum in Bogota,” said José Ricardo Botelho, CEO of ALTA.

“SANSA joined the ISSA Program to receive the necessary training to obtain its certification and contribute to continuing enhancing safety standards in the region. Costa Rica is a country with amazing natural beauty and we have a great opportunity to stimulate tourism through aviation. We stand together and we are proud to work with SANSA to keep on working towards the development of the air network”, he concluded.

The association noted that in 2011 SANSA was awarded as the best airline in Costa Rica by CANATUR and as the most committed to the development of tourism in the South Pacific area.
