VINCI Airports, which is one of the world’s largest airport operators, took possession of Rio Branco International Airport (AC) on Tuesday (25) and will do the same with Cruzeiro do Sul International Airport this coming Saturday (29), both located in the state of Acre, in northwestern Brazil.
Rio Branco and Cruzeiro do Sul are part of the northern block of airports that VINCI Airports has been awarded in April 2021 as part of the sixth round of concessions launched by the Brazilian government.
It comprises the Manaus airport, the third in cargo movement in Brazil, which was already integrated at the beginning of January, and the airports of Porto Velho, Boa Vista, Tabatinga and Tefé, which will pass into the hands of VINCI Airports in a process that will be completed in February. VINCI had already landed in the country in 2018 when it was awarded the operation of Salvador de Bahia airport.
As Brazil’s Aeroin, our media partner, reports, 353,743 passengers flew through Rio Branco airport in 2019, while 59,378 flew through Cruzeiro do Sul airport. With an area of 152,581 km2 (larger than countries such as Greece and Portugal), Acre has an interesting potential for aerocommercial development hand in hand with the improvement of airport infrastructure in two of its largest cities.
VINCI Airports stated that the management of these airports will be carried out by applying global operating standards but without losing sight of local particularities.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, VINCI Airports is also responsible for the operation of the airports of Santiago de Chile, Guanacaste (Costa Rica) and those of Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, Samaná, La Isabela, Arroyo Barril and Barahona in the Dominican Republic. In the United States, it operates the airports of Hollywood Burbank, Middle Georgia, Atlantic City International, and Macon Downtown.
