After obtaining slots at France’s second-largest airport in terms of passenger traffic during the third quarter of 2021, Vueling has added dozens of destinations that will allow it to reach a network of 50 cities served from Orly by next summer.

During the 42nd edition of FITUR held in Madrid, Spain, Calum Laming, Vueling’s Chief Customer Officer, unveiled the summer season schedule, highlighting the establishment of a base at London/Gatwick (LGW). He also announced an expansion of operations at Paris/Orly (ORY).

With this it seeks to make the most of slots ceded by airlines such as Air France, with the forecast to operate 50 routes this summer, a big growth compared to the 11 available in 2019. Two new connections will link Paris Orly with Kiev (Ukraine) and the island of La Palma (Canary Islands).

The network of destinations at the Paris airport includes Spain (20), Italy (8), the United Kingdom (7), Germany (3), Ireland (2), Denmark (2), Morocco (2), Portugal (2), Sweden (1), Malta (1), Norway (1) and Ukraine (1). According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, Vueling will have an offer representing 12.9% of the seating capacity at Orly, positioning itself as the third most important airline in a market largely dominated by Air France (24%) and Transavia (34.7%).

Vueling’s network transformation plan

This new flight program has also the distinction of being part, for the first time, of Vueling’s transformation plan (Vueling Transform), in turn, integrated into the Advanced Network Design project, which aims to establish new ways of approaching network design.

The IAG Group’s low-cost subsidiary says it takes into account key elements such as the efficient use of aircraft and flight schedules in terms of carbon emissions, the minimization of disruptions, and the support of operational teams in important areas such as punctuality.

Vueling targets to reach pre-pandemic levels by 2023, or at the latest by 2024. Thus, from March 26 until October 29, the company schedules flights to around 120 destinations in more than 30 countries, reaching a level similar to that of 2019. In total, it will have 320 routes in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.

To tackle the new schedule, the company expects to operate 129 aircraft. According to Ch-aviation, it has five A319s, 64 Airbus A320ceo, twenty-three Airbus A320neo, and eighteen Airbus A321ceo assets, with eight A320neo and fourteen A321neo aircraft due to be delivered soon.
