The fourth Cayman Airways Boeing 737-8, registration VP-CIZ, landed at Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport yesterday 20 in the afternoon.
The aircraft had departed from the delivery center at Boeing Field in Seattle, and before arriving at its final destination, it flew at less than 1,000 feet over the other two large islands that make up the archipelago, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac, so that residents could be part of this historic event for the company.
The arrival of the VP-CIZ marks the end of the fleet renewal process that the company began with its MAXs, a variant of which it was the first operator in the Caribbean, incorporating them as of 2018 through an agreement with Air Lease Corporation signed in 2016.
The airline had withdrawn its last Boeing 737-300 last year, which at the time was 25 years old, so completing the addition of the MAX was vital to maintaining its operation and looking to expand.
«We are looking forward to providing better service by being able to spread our current flights across a greater number of aircraft, which will provide increased scheduling flexibility and a higher level of redeployment when operational issues arise,» noted Fabian Whorms, President and CEO of Cayman Airways in reference to the arrival of the fourth 737-8.
Cayman Airways operates Boeing 737-8s on routes connecting Grand Cayman (GCM) to Tampa (TPA), Miami (MIA), La Ceiba (LCE), Kingston (KIN), New York (JFK), and Havana (HAV), as well as Cayman Brac (CYB) to Miami (MIA).
Through its regional brand, Cayman Airways Express also operates flights between Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac using two Twin Otters and two Saab 340Bs.
