As part of Avianca’s capacity recovery plan, underway after successfully closing Chapter 11 proceedings, Avianca Cargo seeks to expand its cargo transportation business in the United States and South America. For this, it will request in a public hearing permission to operate cargo routes to six countries in the continent.
On February 24, Avianca Cargo will present to the Aerocivil authorities requesting the addition to the existing cargo operator certificate of permission to fly to:
- United States (Miami, Chicago and/or Los Angeles)
- Argentina (Ezeiza)
- Brazil (Viracopos and/or Paraná)
- Chile (Santiago)
- Paraguay (Asunción)
- Uruguay (Montevideo)
The requested frequency is up to three weekly operations per destination and under conditions of up to fifth freedom of the air. The operator will use its A330-200Fs, recently transferred to Castlelake in a Sale and Leaseback operation.
Avianca Cargo’s decision comes in the context of a sharp increase in cargo operations at a regional and global level, driven by the e-commerce boom and the logistical limitations currently faced by other traditional means such as sea freight.
