Iberia Airport Services provides ramp services to more than 150 airlines at 29 airports in Spain. As reported by the company, during 2021 it provided services to more than 46.8 million customers, which represents a substantial increase compared to 2020. This number shows an increase of 59.6% compared to previous years, highlighting the recovery of the airline industry in the post-pandemic period.

Iberia Airport Services handles 70% of Barcelona’s flights, providing its services to some thirty airlines. During the pandemic, the company was able to adapt to health protocols without losing operations. For example, in these difficult times, the service provided to the company Vueling registered a 99.78% on-time performance, according to Cirium and airport authorities.

Iberia’s Airport Director, Mr. José Luis de Luna, said: “2021 has not been an easy year. We were conditioned by the restrictions imposed by different countries, resulting in a decrease in passenger traffic. Currently, although we are growing in numbers, we have not yet exceeded the 2019 average. As for the service provided to Vueling at El Prat Airport, it is a sign of the commitment assumed by the company in the quality of the ramp service, so essential in airline operations. We are expanding with 10 new customers and the recent fleet renewal, incorporating a batch of electric vehicles (Mototok) in search of the sustainability of the activity, while serving more than 200,000 aircraft and 33 million pieces of luggage,” said the official.

Air France continues to invest in electric ramp equipment.

Thus, in December, 1,000 temporary employees were hired, distributed in the 19 airports where the company operates to meet the strong demand for the December holidays conditioned by the Omicron variant. In addition, IAS plans to transform 800 contracts from temporary to permanent, as agreed with the aeronautical unions.

Iberia Airport Services operations in numbers:

  • 200,000 aircraft.
  • 33,000,000 pieces of baggage.
  • 330,000 tons of cargo.
  • In percentage terms, services grew by 43.8 % and baggage increased by 81.4 %.

Passenger services provided by IAS consist of check-in, boarding, arrivals, attention to transit passengers, incidents, and special services, such as attention to the disabled and accompaniment of minors.

As for aircraft services, the company is in charge of loading and unloading baggage/cargo, push back, compressed air/air conditioning services, aircraft cleaning, provisional catering, stairs, generators and transfer platforms, coordinating the operation of all this equipment under strict operational safety standards.

In line with global sustainability trends, during 2021 IAS has incorporated electric equipment (GPU, TUG, loading platforms) to its fleets in the air terminals of Madrid, Malaga and Barcelona. Minimizing Co2 emissions in its operations.
