Swoop, the Canadian ultra-low-cost airline subsidiary of Westjet, announced that it will add six Boeing 737 MAX 8s, bringing its fleet to 16 units. The airline currently operates ten 737-800s from its base at Toronto-Pearson Airport.
During the northern summer, just in time to meet the demand for what it expects will be a record season, Swoop will take delivery of the aircraft. Bert van der Stege, Swoop’s Chief Commercial and Financial Officer, said, «We have seen demand for tickets increase significantly. These six aircraft will ensure that we can meet this increase».
Now, the airline with the growth of its fleet adding 737 MAX will significantly expand its domestic network, adding direct flights to Newfoundland and increasing frequencies on the Canadian east coast. ULCC will also add six new routes and additional capacity in Ontario.
The airline’s announced expansion comes at the same time Swoop reports significant passenger growth and record bookings domestically.
