The kangaroo jumps to Texas! Qantas resumes flights to Dallas

As of February 16, Qantas resumes operations on one of its most emblematic routes between Sydney (SYD) and Dallas / Fort Worth (DFW) with three weekly flights on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, the airline returns to Texas after 23 months, after suspending service due to the pandemic crisis.

This route between Australia and Texas is Qantas’ second-longest route and the eighth longest worldwide with 13,804 kilometers and a flight time of 17 hours and 20 minutes.

Itinerary between Sydney and Dallas

  • Flight QF7 SYD 17:40 – DFW 16:00
  • Flight QF8 DFW 20:20 – SYD 06:05+2

The flights will be operated in Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner configured with 42 Business Class seats (1-2-1), 21 Premium Economy (2-3-2), and 166 in Economy, the company will have an offer of 1416 seats per week, first-class service will not be available.

Since 2011, Qantas began its flights to Dallas (DFW) were initially operated on Boeing 747-400ER with a technical stopover in Brisbane on flight QF8 and in 2014 was changed to the Airbus A380-800 superjumbo with 484 seats in four classes.

Dallas / Fort Worth (DFW) is the largest hub for Oneworld partner American Airlines and Qantas transpacific Joint Venture, where a large portion of passengers make connections for destinations in Florida, the Middle East, and the East Coast of the United States.

Data obtained by Aviacionline through the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development in the period between June 2018-2019 between Sydney (SYD) – Dallas / Fort Worth (DFW) moved 232,570 passengers in 670 air operations with an occupancy factor of 81.7%, one of the main intercontinental routes of Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD).

The report obtained by OAG through The Dallas Morning News between April 2017 through March 2018, Sydney (SYD) was Dallas / Fort Worth Airport’s (DFW) highest revenue international route with a total of USD 304,897,303.

Between June 2018-2019, Qantas moved 1,437,389 passengers to the United States, one of the company’s most important international markets, with the gradual opening of borders in Australia, the airline has restarted several of its routes to North America and has reactivated Airbus A380s again.

  • Melbourne (MEL) – Los Angeles (LAX) three flights per week on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
  • Sydney (SYD) – Los Angeles (LAX) four weekly flights on Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
  • Sydney (SYD) – Vancouver (YVR) three weekly flights on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
