Air New Zealand announces flights to New York as of Sep 2022. The company will operate between Auckland (AKL) and John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) three times a week, throughout the year on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
This new service strengthens the transpacific Joint Venture between the New Zealand carrier and United Airlines. Between the two carriers, they offer the largest choice of destinations and seats between New Zealand and the United States of any alliance.
«The United States has always been a key market for us, and this new route cements our commitment to developing growing tourism opportunities between the two countries. In six years prior to Covid, the number of U.S. visitors to New Zealand doubled and looking at the average spend in New Zealand by U.S. tourists, we estimate that this new route will contribute an additional $65 million per year to the local economy,» said Greg Foran, Chief Executive Officer of Air New Zealand.
Customers will be able to choose to connect from New York to various destinations in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, thanks to Air New Zealand’s partnership with United Airlines. Also through the New Zealand airline’s network of partners, travelers will be able to choose to fly to other European destinations from New York to Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels, Helsinki, Stockholm, and Copenhagen.
With this new service to New York, Air New Zealand expands its offering to the United States and Canada with seven destinations. These include Chicago O’ Hare (ORD), Honolulu (HNL), Houston – Intercontinental (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Vancouver (YVR) and soon New York (JFK).

- Auckland – New York Flight NZ 002 AKL 16:00 – JFK 16:15 Saturday.
«Traditionally, flight numbers 1 and 2 are used for an airline’s main route. And that’s what New York will be: our primary route,» Foran added.
Itinerary from September 19
- Auckland – New York Flight NZ 002 AKL 19:40 – JFK 19:55 Monday, Thursday and Saturday
- New York – Auckland Flight NZ 001 JFK 21:55 – AKL 07:30+2 Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
Flights will be operated in Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with 275 seats in 4 classes (27 Business Premier/33 Premium Economy/39 Economy Skycouch/176 Economy).
Air New Zealand will operate from Terminal 1 at John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK). Flights are subject to government and regulatory requirements.
Prior to Pandemic, the New Zealand airline had announced it would fly to the Big Apple from Newark (EWR) with the completion of its flagship service to London Heathrow via Los Angeles (LAX), with the aim of offering greater connections through New York.
