As the Russian advance in Ukraine continues despite resistance and logistical difficulties, a decision by the Republic of Poland has the potential to generate an abrupt escalation in the conflict.
In a statement, Poland has arranged for all of its MiG-29s to be made available immediately and free of charge for delivery to Rammstein airbase, for them to be at the disposal of the United States, which according to ongoing negotiations will seek ways to transfer the aircraft to the Ukrainian Air Force.
The communiqué states that «the authorities of the Republic of Poland, following consultations between the President and the Government, are ready to deploy – immediately and free of charge – all its MiG-29 aircraft at the Rammstein air base and to place them at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America.
At the same time, Poland requests the United States to provide us with used aircraft with corresponding operational capabilities. Poland is ready to immediately establish the conditions for the purchase of the aircraft.
The Polish government also requests other NATO allies – owners of MIG-29 aircraft – to act in the same direction.»
This is a developing story.
