Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air announced the opening of 18 new routes from London-Gatwick Airport (LGW) for the upcoming summer. Four Airbus A321neo aircraft will be based at the London airport, the second busiest of the six ones serving the British capital.
The launch of the new frequencies coincides with the reopening of the airport’s South Terminal in a context of air traffic recovering in Europe. In total, Wizz Air will fly to 25 destinations from Gatwick, which has operated as one of the company’s bases since October 2020. Through a statement, the company also highlighted the creation of 210 direct jobs thanks to the increase in its operation.
The airline will hire additional airport staff and cabin crew based in London. As with other summer seasonal air operations initiatives, it will also contribute to the creation of indirect jobs.
Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, said: «Today’s route launches signify the start of an exciting new chapter for Wizz Air UK at Gatwick Airport as we embark on the summer travel season». She further highlighted the company’s commitment to «providing low-cost connectivity to customers in London and the south of England».
