According to figures from the JAC’s Air Transport Statistics Division, January was the second best month in terms of air passenger flow since March 2020. The best record corresponds to December 2021. During the first month of this year, 1,287,951 travellers were mobilised in 10,470 operations.

Last month was the third best March in the history of the Dominican Republic, after 2019 and 2018. The data evidences the recovery of the trend observed until 2020 and subsequently interrupted by air mobility restrictions. The final figure was 1,346,412 passengers carried in 10,285 operations during March 2022.

Commenting on the quarterly data, José Marte Piantini, President of the JAC, said the operations «demonstrate confidence in the solidity of the Dominican market». He added that «the establishment of bilateral air transport relations arranged by the Dominican Republic through the JAC has contributed significantly to connectivity, mainly benefiting air transport users».

The official said that «the commitment made by the Dominican State has allowed the sector to become one of the pillars of the country’s economic development». In this sense, he celebrated the new Dominican airlines Arajet, RedAir and Sky Cana. Finally, he highlighted the expansion and remodelling of Santo Domingo and Punta Cana airports for the «benefit of commercial exchange».
