Emirates and Airlink airlines inaugurated their new codeshare partnership. This agreement between the Emirates and South African carriers will provide a wider range of options for customers of both airlines. The possibility to issue tickets with shared itineraries is now available through all sales channels.
The announcement of the inauguration of the codeshare system comes ten months after the two companies first announced their intention to enter into such an agreement.
With the new partnership, Emirates passengers can now fly domestic connections from the three South African airports where it operates: a total of eight destinations from Johannesburg (JNB), five from Cape Town (CPT) and one from Durban (DUR) operated by Airlink are available.
Some of the main ones available from the agreement are Bloemfontein, East London, George, Hoedspruit, Kimberley and Port Elizabeth. On the other hand, travelers starting their journey in South Africa will access Emirates’ extensive offering from its Dubai base through a single itinerary booking.
Currently, the UAE’s largest airline operates two daily flights between Dubai (DXB) and Johannesburg, one daily frequency to and from Cape Town, and five weekly frequencies to and from Durban.
Emirates noted that it has recently expanded its reach to 79 destinations in Southern Africa through its partnership with South African Airways, its codeshare agreement with Airlink and interlines agreements with Cemair and FlySafair.
