Eve Air Mobility and Corporación América Airports confirmed their partnership to work on the development of urban air mobility (UAM) solutions. In December 2021, both companies had signed a memorandum of understanding.
The objective is to design and integrate ecosystems of services and support for operations of this type in Latin America and Europe. Both companies will bring their expertise to assess the market readiness of existing ground infrastructure and the current regulatory environment in each country. This market is still emerging, but has growth prospects for the coming years.
Eve is Embraer’s subsidiary company for the production of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and the development of urban air mobility solutions.
The development of this type of mobility would be particularly useful in Latin American cities with high population concentration, traffic congestion and poor air quality. Vertical take-off and landing electric aircraft offer a low-emission transportation option and can operate over small land areas.
Corporación América Airports is the largest private-sector airport concession operator in the world by the number of airports. It currently operates 53 in six countries (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Ecuador, Armenia and Italy).
Andre Stein, co-CEO of Eve, stressed that «the urban air mobility ecosystem includes ground infrastructures and operations, airports, and integration of different transportation modes». In this sense, he assured that the partnership will them to «create and implement these concepts, in line with regulatory authorities’ requirements, in different communities in Latin America and Europe».
Martín Eurnekian, CEO of Corporación América Airports, said that «the next five years will probably be decisive in how we move from and through cities, and aviation will play a leading role again».
