Spanish low-cost airline Vueling announced a new partnership with Avikor, a digital platform designed to encourage the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Under the agreement, the airline will integrate the service into the ticket purchasing process on its ticketing channels. Customers will be able to choose to make a voluntary contribution. As reported, each contribution will be compensated by Vueling, which will use a proportion of SAF on each flight.
Passengers who contribute will receive a certification of the volume of sustainable fuel used and the carbon dioxide emissions avoided. The process will be legitimized by AENOR, an entity specialized in the certification of management systems, products and services.
The option is already available for bookings through the mobile application or by accessing the official website from mobile devices. According to Vueling, it will be available accessing from any browser from July.
Franc Sanmartí, Director of Sustainability and Government Affairs at Vueling, said that the initiative will allow «to continue offering competitive prices and accelerate the transition to a carbon neutral and more environmentally friendly transport».
Avikor was launched in June 2021. It offers individuals and companies solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of flights through the use of sustainable aviation fuel. The model is flexible and can be adapted to each user or company. Based on customer requests, the platform calculates the fuel needed to reduce emissions and manages that amount with ground refueling systems.
