Wingo will fly from José María Córdova Airport (MDE) (serving Medellín, Colombia) to Havana (HAV), Cuba and Oranjestad (AUA), Aruba, starting October 1. It will also increase its operations to Panama City (PTY).
With the launch of these two routes, the company will reach 23 international connections, maintaining its position as the Colombian low-cost airline with the largest number of connections abroad.
Wingo’s international offer consists of the following destinations: San José (SJO) in Costa Rica; Panama City (PTY); Curaçao (CUR); Guayaquil (GYE) and Quito (UIO) in Ecuador; Cancun and Mexico City (MEX); Lima (LIM) in Peru; Punta Cana (PUJ) and Santo Domingo (SDQ) in the Dominican Republic and Caracas (CCS), Venezuela (suspended).
With these two new routes Medellín becomes the airline’s second most important base with 6 international destinations:
- Panama City (PTY); which increases from 7 to 10 weekly flights in October.
- Cancun (CUN) in Mexico; with 3 weekly flights.
- Punta Cana (PUJ) in Dominican Republic; with 4 weekly flights.
- Santo Domingo (SDQ) in Dominican Republic; with 3 weekly flights.
To carry out the increase of flights in Medellin, Wingo will base a second aircraft at the Medellin airport.

«Medellín is an important market for us and that is why we are growing in this city, offering more connectivity alternatives for its inhabitants. These two launches mean a lot to Wingo because we are going to increase our international offerings from José María Córdova by 50%, going from four to six international routes,» said Jorge Jiménez, Wingo’s Commercial and Planning Director.
Fredy Jaramillo Giraldo, Manager of José María Córdova International Airport, stated that Wingo joins the 17 routes departing from the air terminal to Central America, Mexico, the United States, South America and Europe. They expect to close this year with 12 million passengers, of which close to 2,200,000 will be international.
Medellín and Havana, connected for the first time
Wingo will link Medellín and Havana for the first time ever, starting October 1st. This route will have two weekly flights, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offering 744 seats per week.
The airline will start selling this route in the next few days with promotional launch fares starting at USD 125 each way.
Wingo currently connects Havana (HAV) with Bogota (BOG) three times a week. It also operates a weekly charter flight to Santa Clara (SNU) from the Colombian capital.
The company is the only South American airline providing connectivity to the island. According to data obtained by Aerocivil, during the first five months of 2022 (January-May), Wingo mobilized 20,477 passengers between Havana and Bogota.
«The Cuban Ministry of Tourism and its embassy in Colombia are very enthusiastic about this route, which will serve to further increase the flow of passengers. To support its marketing, we will be making a promotional caravan in August through this area of Colombia,» said Mariano Fernandez, representative of the Ministry of Tourism in Colombia.
Medellin – Aruba, more seats for the Caribbean’s Happy Island
Like Cuba, the route to Aruba will have 2 flights a week (Wednesdays and Saturdays), starting October 1, with Boeing 737-800 aircraft offering a weekly supply of 744 seats.
It will have a promotional introductory fare starting at USD 94 one way. The company landed on the island in 2016 as the first Colombian low-cost carrier to operate there. It currently serves with three weekly flights from Bogota (BOG).

Wingo will have to compete on this route to Medellin with SARPA, which operates three weekly flights on ERJ 145 aircraft.
