Spirit to link Connecticut with Jamaica

Spirit Airlines is expanding its offerings to the Caribbean with a new route between Hartford (BDL) and Montego Bay (MBJ) with four weekly flights and year-round service. The low-cost carrier will be the only carrier to offer non-stop flights between Connecticut and Jamaica, providing an affordable travel option for tourists.

“Spirit Airlines is pleased to launch our first international flight from Bradley International Airport. We sincerely appreciate our partnership with the airport and the opportunities for growth since launching service in 2017,” said John Kirby, vice president of network planning for Spirit Airlines.

“We have tremendous teams here in both Connecticut and Montego Bay and have proudly served Jamaica since 2005. We look forward to providing our guests with More Go,” Kirby added.

The new service between Bradley Airport (BDL) and Sangster International Airport (MBJ) will begin December 15, highlighting Spirit’s commitment to Connecticut and enhancing growth from Hartford (BDL), where it also offers nonstop service to Orlando (MCO), Miami (MIA) and Myrtle Beach (MYR) as well as seasonal service to Tampa (TPA) and Fort Myers (RSW).

Spirit in Jamaica will also offer flights from Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Orlando (MCO) and Philadelphia (PHL) to Montego Bay (MBJ); and from Kingston (KIN) to FLL. The low-cost airline will have six routes to the Caribbean country during the northern winter season.

We thank Spirit Airlines for filling this need with direct connectivity between Connecticut and Montego Bay. We anticipate that this will also increase tourist traffic directly from Connecticut to Montego Bay and Jamaica,” said Shane Munroe, CEO of MBJ Airports Limited.

“I have no doubt that this service will be successful, and I am proud that Bradley Airport will finally be able to offer this convenient connectivity for the state’s strong Jamaican population, their friends and family,” said Kevin A.
