After a decade, Delta returns to London – Gatwick

Delta will return to London Gatwick (LGW) after a decade with a daily seasonal service from New York (JFK) starting April 10, 2023. The airline becomes the fourth U.S. carrier to serve the British capital’s second major airport.

Delta’s last non-stop operation at Gatwick (LGW) was on April 17, 2012 with daily Boeing 767 service from Atlanta (ATL), previously the carrier had planned to return to LGW for summer 2020 with service from Boston (BOS), but these plans were cancelled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

According to data compiled by Aviacionline through the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority 699,766 were mobilized in 2019 between New York (JFK) and Gatwick (LGW), was LGW’s main transatlantic destination. Delta will compete in this market with British Airways, Norse Atlantic and JetBlue.

With this new service the Atlanta-based carrier plans to offer new options for travelers to fly to New York from England, as well as offer transcontinental connections to Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO) and Seattle (SEA).

«Delta is a big name in the transatlantic market and to be able to offer passengers from London and the Southeast the opportunity to travel with them between Gatwick and New York City is fantastic, providing not only greater choice, but also greater competition. It also demonstrates Gatwick’s strong appeal as an airport for major long-haul airlines,» said Stewart Wingate, chief executive of Gatwick Airport.
