Mammoth Freighters, founded in 2020 to design and support the development of passenger-to-freighter conversions, announced that aircraft leasing company AviaAM will be the first customer for the Boeing 777-300ERMF.
According to a press release, the agreement includes a firm order for six aircraft and a backlog of another 40 conversions. Following the completion of Boeing 737-800 aircraft conversions, AviaAM is now investing in other models as part of its expansion plan in the booming air cargo market.
«Our new partnership exemplifies AviaAM’s strategic effort to expand our presence in the air cargo market, further strengthening our position as a reliable and world-class leasing and trading services provider», said Tadas Goberis, President and CEO of AviaAM.
Conversion of the first airplane will begin in early 2023. The process will take place at Aspire’s MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facility at Alliance Airport in Fort Worth, Texas. The aircraft is expected to serve high-demand cargo routes, primarily between China, the United States and Europe.
Last August, Mammoth Freighters signed a multi-year contract with Aspire to expand its capacity. Under the partnership, Aspire will undertake conversion, maintenance and other related work on the company’s Boeing 777-200LRMF and 777-300ERMF.
However, the programme is not yet approved by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Supplemental Type Certificate should be granted next year. Nevertheless, progress continues to be made. For instance, he tools needed to carry out the conversion work are already being produced.
«The Mammoth 777-300ERMF is a fuel efficient, high-volume, heaving lifting, long-range freighter that will reliably serve the global air cargo market for decades to come», said Bill Wagner, co-CEO of Mammoth Freighters.
