The city of Barcelona will host the Annual General Assembly of the Airports Council International (ACI) in 2023, according to Aena, the public company that manages airports of general interest in Spain.

The event, called WAGA 2023 – ACI EUROPE (World Annual General Assembly, Conference and Exhibition) will be held in June next year. It will be attended by around six hundred delegates. Among them, airport CEOs, regulators and dignitaries from more than one hundred countries.

Maurici Lucena, President and CEO of Aena, said that for the company it is «a great honour» to host the annual meeting.

«I am convinced that, from a professional point of view, the event will be a unique opportunity to reflect on the challenges we face at a turning point for our industry», Lucena explained. «On a personal level, the event will be a wonderful opportunity to discover the cultural, architectural and natural wonders of a city as attractive as Barcelona, my hometown», he added.

Luis Felipe de Oliveira, ACI’s World Director, said that Aena «is the perfect host, as a leader in social, economic and environmental sustainability, and as one of the most active partners of Airports Council International». «We look forward to building on what is already a strong and long-standing partnership», he added. Javier Marín, currently Managing Director of Airports at Aena, also currently serves as President of ACI Europe.

Airports Council International is the professional association of airport operators worldwide. It is a non-profit organisation based in Montreal, Canada. Its main objective is to promote the interests of airports and to foster professional excellence in airport management.

The institution works as a representative of airports and interacts with international bodies that in one way or another have a bearing on their activity.

ACI Europe is the regional office of the body and represents the interests of airport operators in Europe. It is based in Brussels, Belgium. It currently represents more than five hundred airports, which receive about 90% of all air traffic on the continent.
