From 2 May 2023, easyJet will operate flights between Manchester Airport (MAN) and Región de Murcia International Airport (RMU). The British low-cost carrier will offer a frequency of two weekly connections, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Services will be marketed from 7 December through the company’s official sales channels.
The opening of the route is part of the airline’s expansion plans in Manchester. During the coming spring and summer season, easyJet will base a new Airbus A320neo there with the capacity to carry up to 186 passengers. This will give it a total of 21 aircraft operating out of the city airport.
The airline has maintained its Manchester base for more than fifteen years and in that time has carried more than 25 million passengers to and from the airport. In that sense, the addition of the new airplane will help create around forty local employment opportunities and will be «a clear symbol of the commitment to the airport», the company said in a press release.
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, commented: «The addition of another aircraft will help us to deliver growth in Manchester and offer customers an even wider range of destinations, like our new summer route to Murcia in Spain, which will provide our customers in the North West with a direct connection to a region which offers a variety of rich culture and beautiful beaches in abundance, all with low fares and great customer service».
easyJet in Spain
The airline carried more than thirteen million passengers to or from Spain in the last financial year. The figure represents a 270% growth over the previous one. In addition, it operated a total of 196 routes from twenty airports in the country and achieved a market share in Spain of 7%. The average occupancy rate for operations in the Iberian country was 88%.
