Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost airline, will inaugurate five new routes this week from Asturias Airport (OVD), close to the cities of Avilés, Gijón and Oviedo.
The first scheduled flight landed yesterday, just before five o’clock in the afternoon, from London-Stansted Airport (STN). Ryanair will offer three weekly frequencies in both directions, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Today, 2 November, the route between Asturias and Dublin Airport (DUB), Republic of Ireland, will be inaugurated. Ryanair will market two weekly frequencies in both directions, on Wednesdays and Sundays.
On Thursday 3 November, Ryanair will operate the first regular flight between Asturias and Weeze Airport (NRN), Germany. The airline will operate two flights a week in both directions, on Thursdays and Sundays.
Finally, the other two new routes will be inaugurated on Saturday 5 November. From that day, Ryanair will offer two weekly frequencies, on Mondays and Fridays, between Asturias and the airports of Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), Italy, and Brussels South-Charleroi (CRL), Belgium.
More air connectivity in Asturias
In this way, the only airport in the Principality of Asturias that receives commercial passenger flights will have connections to a total of eight direct international destinations. Thus, it will reach the largest offer of international flights in its history. The five new Ryanair routes will be added to the three already operated by Spanish airline Vueling, to London-Gatwick (LGW), Paris-Orly (ORY) and Amsterdam-Schiphol (AMS).
According to Aena, the public company that manages general interest airports in Spain, airlines have scheduled more than 865.000 seats on flights to and from Asturias Airport during the current autumn and winter season, which will run until 25 March 2023. The figure represents a 38% increase in capacity compared to the same period in 2019 and 2020.
