Aena, the Spanish public company that manages the country’s airports of general interest, announced yesterday that it will extend the economic incentives for flights from La Palma International Airport (SPC), located on the island of La Palma, in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
In this way, the extraordinary incentive that was already applied in 2022 will be in force for at least one more year. «Aena thus contributes to the scheduling of routes and operations by airlines», the airport operator said in a press release.
On the other hand, the measure would also help speed up the recovery of activity on the island, which is still suffering the consequences of the volcano eruption in the Cumbre Vieja natural park area, active between September and December 2021.
The incentive consists of the elimination of the infrastructure use fee, or passenger tax, on all commercial air operations taking off from La Palma International Airport to the Iberian Peninsula, the Balearic Islands or destinations outside Spain between 1 January 2023 and 31 December of that year.
Airlines will continue to receive a full reimbursement for all their departures from the airport, which means a reduction in operating costs always welcomed by operators.
