Air Canada begins to operate flights to Bangkok

On December 1 Air Canada began seasonal services between Vancouver (YVR) and Bangkok (BKK): this route will be available until March 26, 2023. The Thai capital becomes the airline’s only destination in Southeast Asia.

Flight AC65 was operated on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner registered with the registration C-FVLZ, which took off from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) at 23:30 local time and landed at Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) at 06:26 on Saturday, after 15 hours and 59 minutes.

“This new YVR service is another step in our ambition to make this hub one of the most important transpacific gateways in North America. We look forward to welcoming our customers on board,” said Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s senior vice president of network planning and revenue management.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, the airline will offer 2,384 weekly seats on this new service. It also provides the second non-stop service between Canada and Southeast Asia, complementing Singapore Airlines’ operations between Changi Airport (SIN) and Vancouver (YVR).

“We are delighted that Air Canada continues to expand its transpacific hub at YVR with the introduction of its new route to Bangkok, the only direct service from North America to Thailand,” said Tamara Vrooman, president and CEO of the Vancouver Airport Authority.

Flight Itinerary

The route will be operated on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with a capacity of 298 seats in three classes (30 Signature Class/21 Premium Economy/247 Economy). In celebration of this new service, Vancouver Airport (YVR) held a social media sweepstakes for two flights to Bangkok.

Currently, Air Canada’s transpacific network from Vancouver (YVR) offers non-stop service to Auckland (AKL), Brisbane (BNE), Hong Kong (HKG), Seoul – Incheon (ICN), Tokyo – Narita (NRT), Sydney (SYD) and now Bangkok (BKK). For this northern winter season, the carrier will offer 30,272 seats per week between YVR and the Asia-Pacific region.

The last non-stop connection between Thailand and North America, was on April 29, 2012, with a service between Bangkok (BKK) and Los Angeles (LAX) operated by Thai Airways on Airbus A340-500.
