ITA Airways started flights to India

On December 3 ITA Airways started its flights between Rome – Fiumicino (FCO) and Delhi (DEL), this is the second destination of the company in the Asia-Pacific region. The last commercial operation between India and Italy, was performed on March 29, 2020, by the defunct Alitalia.

Flight AZ770 was operated on Airbus A330 registered EI-EJH, which took off from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) at 14:45 and landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) at 02:17 the following day, after 7 hours and one minute.

“ITA Airways is the only airline to offer non-stop flights between India and Italy, with which Indian passengers will be able to discover the beauties of the Italian capital and the uniqueness of the “Made in Italy” in-flight service, and will also use this flight as a connection to start exploring 51 other destinations in Italy, Europe, the Mediterranean and North and South America,” said Pierfrancesco Carino, Vice President, International Sales at ITA Airways.

Flight Itinerary

  • Rome/Fiumicino – Delhi Flight AZ 770 FCO 14:10 – DEL 02:00+1 Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
  • Delhi – Rome/Fiumicino Flight AZ 769 DEL 03:50 – FCO 08:10 Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

The route will be operated by Airbus A330-200 aircraft with a capacity of 256 passengers in three classes (20 Business Class/17 Premium Economy/219 Economy) and the airline will offer 1,536 seats per week.

  • The service is available year-round.
  • As of July 1, the route increases to four weekly flights, with an extra flight on Thursdays between FCO – DEL and Fridays between DEL – FCO.
  • As of August 1, the operation increases to five weekly flights, with an additional operation on Tuesdays between FCO – DEL and Wednesdays between DEL – FCO.

According to data compiled by Aviacionline through the Ente Nazionale Per L’Aviazione Civile (ENAC), India was the second most important market in the Asia – Pacific region for Italy in terms of passengers in 2019 where 339,419 travelers were mobilized.

Currently, Delhi (DEL) is the second destination in Asia for ITA Airways, in November the company inaugurated its flights to Tokyo – Haneda (HND) and by December 17 will start its seasonal service to Male, Maldives (MLE).
