Porter Airlines takes delivery of first Embraer E195-E2

Porter Airlines took delivery of its first two Embraer E195-E2s out of an order for fifty aircraft at a delivery ceremony held at the manufacturer’s headquarters in Brazil. The airline expects to receive another three units in the run-up to the New Year.

“The E195-E2 allows us to reach across the continent, beyond our roots in eastern Canada, while presenting a level of service for economy travelers that no other airline in North America offers. It’s an enhanced experience that builds on our reputation for providing an elevated level of service to every passenger at reasonable prices in a single class of service,” said Michael Deluce, president and chief executive officer of Porter Airlines.

Porter is the launch customer for the E195-E2 in North America, with this new model the airline will expand its operations to western Canada, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean. This aircraft will have a 132-passenger configuration, where the company offers several types of seats with 35, 34 and 30-inch pitch.

“The E195-E2 is the most sustainable single-aisle aircraft, 65 percent quieter and up to 25 percent cleaner than previous-generation aircraft. It has the lowest fuel burn per seat per trip among 120- to 150-seat aircraft and is the quietest single-aisle aircraft flying today,” said Arjan Meijer, president and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.

Porter has orders for 100 E195-E2 aircraft; fifty firm orders and fifty purchase options valued at $7.38 billion.

The first aircraft will be based at Toronto – Pearson (YYZ) and the airline has scheduled its first services to Ottawa (YOW), Montreal (YUL), Edmonton (YEG), Calgary (YYC) and Vancouver (YVR).
